Art and creativity have the capacity to heal us and improve our general mental wellness on a large scale since they have so many advantages for the mind, spirit, and body. This form of emotional and mental connection is both transcendent and incredibly good to mental health. The ability of art  to reshape lives and alter one’s vision of the world is well known.

Art therapy has the potential to be the next big thing in mental health treatment. In New Zealand, where one in every six adults has been diagnosed with a common mental disorder at some point in their lives, it’s critical to think about how art might help with anxiety, sadness, and bipolar disorder symptoms. Furthermore, positive mental health boosts creativity, making the relationship between art and mental wellness mutual. Art has the incredible capacity to promote mental wellness by unleashing our creativity and building human connection.

Creating Art Reduces Stress and Isolation: Many mental health research have discovered a substantial correlation between art and stress relief. Weekly art workshops significantly lowered people’s feelings of grief and stress, according to a study conducted by Arts and Minds, a major arts and mental health charity in the UK. Art heals and increases a person’s mental wellness, especially for elderly people who live alone and are more likely to experience the negative impacts of social isolation and loneliness.

In fact, one study by Arts and Minds found that participants in the seminars saw a 73% reduction in depression and a 71% reduction in anxiety. Furthermore, 76% of participants reported the seminars enhanced their general mental health and made them feel more socially connected and included. As a result of research like these, it’s past time for us to acknowledge how profoundly the arts may improve our mental health.
